Jennifer Lawrence’s role as a mom battling psychosis in her new movie Die, My Love, hit home because the 34-year-old Hunger Games star battled devastating postpartum blues following the birth of her first kid, son CY, now 3, with art gallery director Cooke Maroney, 40.

“There’s not really anything like postpartum,” says Jen, who recently gave birth to her second child. “It’s extremely isolating.”

In the movie, her character Lynne moves to rural Montana where “she doesn’t have a community,” Jen explains. “She doesn’t have her people. But the truth is, extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolated … You feel like an alien.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer credits having kids for making her a better actress. “I didn’t know that I could feel so much [add: and] my job has a lot to do with emotion,” she adds. “They’ve opened up the world to me.”
