Rockers are notorious for breaking guitars and other stuff onstage, but Blink-182 strummer Mark Hoppus is boasting he helped smash evil Iraqi tyrant Saddam Hussein.

While the claim sounds goofy, the punk bassist and his band were playing for sailors onboard the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier in 2003 around the time of Operation Red Dawn, the mission to capture Hussein.

Hoppus says he told an admiral, “Sir, I have a plan for how to catch Saddam Hussein.” He suggested sending up a series of drones and the next time the dictator broadcasted “one of his videos, you can listen to it, pull the ultrasonic data, and triangulate the drones you have flying all over.” Hoppus says the admiral was “genuinely taken aback” by his plan to pinpoint Saddam’s location, and said he’d tell the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

On Dec. 13, 2003, Hussein was “caught like a rat” by allied troops, who found him hiding in a tiny underground bunker near Tikrit.

Hoppus says: “Four months later, Saddam was located and captured in Iraq,” adding: “So, you’re welcome everyone.”
